How It All Began
On his 21st birthday, James received a homebrewing kit from his craft-beer loving older brother, Sean. This sparked a passion that grew into years of research to write and brew nearly a hundred unique beer recipes.
James discovered one of his greatest joys in brewing is sharing his beer with others, so he partnered with Sean to bring his dream to reality. Together, they built the first brewery and taproom in the City of Edina.
The Name
"Up the Wooden Hill" is an expression our grandfather used to say when it was time to go upstairs to bed. This peculiar name for a staircase always stuck with us. Taking inspiration from family tradition and our grandfather's entrepreneurial spirit led us to name the brewery Wooden Hill.

The Space
We're proud to open Wooden Hill in Edina and serve a community that never before had a hometown brewery and taproom.

Over the course of a year, we transformed a vacant 9,000 square foot warehouse into a production craft brewery and taproom. It's located at 7421 Bush Lake Road, Edina, MN. We're now open Tuesdays through Sundays.

Meet the Founders
Owners, Brothers and Brewers
James Ewen
Given my background in nanotechnology, I particularly enjoy the science of brewing. The creative process of crafting so many new flavors from just water, hops, malt and yeast is incredible. I love sharing my beer with others, receiving feedback, and educating them about brewing methods.

SEAN EWEN
As an entrepreneur starting my third business, I love how the brewery combines crafting a product with serving the local community in the same space. With degrees in biology and medicine, I'm fascinated with the science of brewing and look forward to helping people learn more about this process.
